Some Christmas Crackers: Jess Wheeler x Alex Eagle’s Festive Tableware

Alex Eagle Studio and artist Jess Wheeler have made the perfect finishing touches to your Christmas table.

With Christmas on the horizon, our minds are turning to feasting and fun. To celebrate, Alex Eagle has joined forces with artist, set designer and ceramicist Jess Wheeler to create a festive collection of tablecloths, napkins, bowls and Christmas cards exclusively for Alex Eagle Studio.

The natural world informs every element of Wheeler’s work, from the petals on her tablecloths to the Welsh pebbles round which she moulds her clay bowls.

‘Plants and the natural world have played a fundamental role in my work for as long as I can remember,’ she says. ‘I’m obsessed with flowers, I make sculptures from them and of them, collect them, grow them and paint them.’

Her illustrated Christmas cards are an elegant take on the traditional missive, featuring cheerful festive plants. ‘My favourite thing to draw is overflowing, unruly pots of pelargoniums and ivy,’ she says. ‘I love when plants are left to stretch out towards the sun making amazing shapes.’

With nature as their central theme, it is important to Wheeler that her pieces transcend seasonality and have a conscience. The table linen is festive in every sense of the word, ready to be pulled out year-round and not just at Christmas. Her ceramics are made in Wales in collaboration with the social enterprise art studio ’Designs in Mind’ which supports members with mental illness.

This blend of thoughtful design and creation makes Wheeler’s pieces the perfect addition to the festive table.
